my day: Claremont Park

A day in the life of a pre-schooler
When I come to nursery I like to bring in a book from home which I will read for a while with some of my friends. Once I am settled I like to do some glueing or painting in the messy room and maybe play in the sand pit or the water tray. By 9.15 am all of my friends are here and I’ll go through to the garden room and play on the computer. The snack table opens at 9.30 ish, sometimes I will have snack first but sometimes I will wait if I am not hungry or if I am enjoying what I am doing. Once I’ve had snack I’ll have a look round the room and see what activities are out in the rainbow room (messy), we can choose from painting, gluing, play dough, water tray, gluck as well as many activities the staff have planned to do with things we’ve been talking about or asking about like volcanoes, sharks, football, hospitals.
We can also sit in the dream room where we can read books, draw pictures or write words. In the garden room we can have jigsaw puzzles, construction toys, small world, dressing up, house corner, computer (we love the cbeebies website). We also have lots of matching, sorting and counting activities that help me with numeracy. Sometimes we’ll all go out in the garden but other times only a few of us will go out, here we can run around, plant things, dig, climb or take part in group activities doing art, findings things, exploring different areas. Around 11.30 we tidy up and all get together for a story and a chat, then have lunch which is always very tasty.
After lunch we all clean our teeth, then have a wee sit down for stories and a rest, some people have a sleep but I don’t. We then get to choose what we want to do again and will carry on with things we did in the morning or sometimes start new things because we found something in the garden or noticed something in a book. Snack table opens again at 3.00 pm and again I can decide when I want it although it closes at 4.00 pm. Then we carry on playing till my mummy or daddy picks me up.

A day in the life of a toddler

When I arrive at nursery I’m welcomed by the tweenie and toddler staff, they talk to my parents about how I’ve been and I give them a kiss goodbye, I then race my parents to the window and give them a big wave. I like to have a quiet time, so I sit in the story corner looking at books, once my tweenie friends leave the room. When the water tray opens I love to splash and pour, when the messy table opens it has different things on it everyday, paint, glueing, junk and sometimes cutting. About ten Fran and Kara shout out “tidy up time in 5 minutes”, I keep playing until they shout again.I sometimes tidy other times I don’t, then I sit in the story corner and I get a big sticker if I have helped tidy up. We sing my favourite songs, I just love “Baa baa black sheep” and sometimes we have a story. Then we all then go to wash our hands; I must use soap to get rid of all the germs. At snack time once I got chosen to be the helper: I handed out snack to the children, some said thank you, some never did. I told them “I want never gets . After snack I played again: with the bricks, drew a picture, then played in the house corner, I was a big dragon. Before I knew it was tidy up time again.
At lunch I sat beside my friends and eat up all my food. I did feel very tired after my busy morning. At sleep time I have my own sleep mat, head sheet and blanket, they turned the lights off and played classical music.
When I wake up I’m full of beans. We play in the garden - I just love the garden, so much to do, what will I choose: the bikes, the sand pit, slide - it started to rain so we had to run quickly inside. We had another activity time and I painted and got very dirty so did Fran and Kara. We have another tidy up time and then snack. I felt a little tired so I snuggled up to Fran and had a story.
When my friends from tweenies come I like this time as I see my younger friends and we get to play with the big table top toys. Some of my friends start to go home, I see my parents come in and I’ll go and hide, it’s funny they will think I’ve gone home. Fran and Kara talk to my mum and dad telling them if I’ve been good, I do try to be. I say goodbye, take my pictures home and tell my mum and dad about my day, Oh I feel tired zzzz.
