my day: Claremont Park

A day in the life of a pre-schooler
When I come to nursery I like to bring in a book from home which I will read for a while with some of my friends. Once I am settled I like to do some gluing or painting in the messy room and maybe play in the sand pit or the water tray. By 9.15 am all of my friends are here and I’ll go through to the garden room and play on the computer. The snack table opens at 9.30 ish, sometimes I will have snack first but sometimes I will wait if I am not hungry or if I am enjoying what I am doing. Once I’ve had snack I’ll have a look round the room and see what activities are out in the rainbow room (messy), we can choose from painting, gluing, play dough, water tray, gluck as well as many activities the staff have planned to do with things we’ve been talking about or asking about like volcanoes, sharks, football, hospitals.
We can also sit in the dream room where we can read books, draw pictures or write words. In the garden room we can have jigsaw puzzles, construction toys, small world, dressing up, house corner, computer (we love the cbeebies website). We also have lots of matching, sorting and counting activities that help me with numeracy. Sometimes we’ll all go out in the garden but other times only a few of us will go out, here we can run around, plant things, dig, climb or take part in group activities doing art, findings things, exploring different areas. Around 11.30 we tidy up and all get together for a story and a chat, then have lunch which is always very tasty.
After lunch we all clean our teeth, then have a wee sit down for stories and a rest, some people have a sleep but I don’t. We then get to choose what we want to do again and will carry on with things we did in the morning or sometimes start new things because we found something in the garden or noticed something in a book. Snack table opens again at 3.00 pm and again I can decide when I want it although it closes at 4.00 pm. Then we carry on playing till my mummy or daddy picks me up.

A day in the life of a toddler

When I arrive at nursery I’m welcomed by the tweenie and toddler staff, they talk to my parents about how I’ve been and I give them a kiss goodbye, I then race my parents to the window and give them a big wave. I like to have a quiet time, so I sit in the story corner looking at books, once my tweenie friends leave the room. When the water tray opens I love to splash and pour, when the messy table opens it has different things on it everyday, paint, glueing, junk and sometimes cutting. About ten Fran, claire and Insuk shout out “tidy up time in 5 minutes”, I keep playing until they shout again. I sometimes tidy other times I don’t, then I sit in the story corner and I get a big sticker if I have helped tidy up. We sing my favourite songs, I just love “Baa baa black sheep” and sometimes we have a story. Then we all then go to wash our hands; I must use soap to get rid of all the germs. At snack time once I got chosen to be the helper: I handed out snack to the children, some said thank you, some never did. I told them “I want never gets . After snack I played again: with the bricks, drew a picture, then played in the house corner, I was a big dragon. Before I knew it was tidy up time again.
At lunch I sat beside my friends and eat up all my food. I did feel very tired after my busy morning. At sleep time I have my own sleep mat, head sheet and blanket, they turned the lights off and played classical music.
When I wake up I’m full of beans. We play in the garden - I just love the garden, so much to do, what will I choose: the bikes, the sand pit, slide - it started to rain so we had to run quickly inside. We had another activity time and I painted and got very dirty so did Fran and Claire. We have another tidy up time and then snack. I felt a little tired so I snuggled up to Fran and had a story.
When my friends from tweenies come I like this time as I see my younger friends and we get to play with the big table top toys. Some of my friends start to go home, I see my parents come in and I’ll go and hide, it’s funny they will think I’ve gone home. Fran and Insuk talk to my mum and dad telling them if I’ve been good, I do try to be. I say goodbye, take my pictures home and tell my mum and dad about my day, Oh I feel tired zzzz.

A Day in the life of the under two's

Baby Room

In the baby room i am greeted with a warm welcome and a cuddle from Kate,Kara or Sam. My mummy or daddy will usually have a quick chat with the staff and tell them all about me, what kind of night i had etc, then they go and put my spare clothes and my comforter if i have one in my basket ready for the day ahead. When all my friends are in we have sometime to play with the treasure basket, fabrics, building blocks or have a cuddle and share a book with my carers.

In the baby room it is important that my carers know all about me and my routine so that i can sleep when i need and get my bottle too when i am hungry, when i am able i sit in the highchair with the other children for a delicious snack and then get my nappy changed. Sometimes we will go for a walk if the weather is ok or visit the children in the garden. When the weather is not so nice we may get to explore messy play which is so much fun i love splashing in the water, painting with my hands or exploring the sand.We like to sleep outside in our buggies when the weather is nice or sleep in the sleep room off the playroom which is always nice and quiet as it is away from all the other children so we are able to get a nice long sleep .

Our day is always fun with lots of cuddles, singing and playing. At the end of the day my carers write a small note for my parents telling them all about my day with what i had to eat, my sleeps and my day .

Beanie Room

In the beanie room we are usually greeted with a big smile and a hug from Laura,Catriona or Georgie, when we first arrive our mummy or daddy will usually talk to with the staff telling them all about me, then they put my coat and spare clothes in my basket with my comforter if i have one. As my routine is still very important to me the staff in the room chat to my parents about my routine and this helps me throughout the day so that my carers know when i need to eat sleep and play.

We get lots of opportunities to explore messy play including water, gluck, shaving foam and painting. We love to splash in the water tray and when painting we love to get as messy as we can , when we are not doing messy play i can chill out in the comfy area with books, soft toys and the treasure baskets as i look at myself in the mirrors.

Sometimes in the beanie room we have the ball pool which is fun or the soft play which i can jump in and out of. I like to play with the cooker and sink and pretend to be like mummy or daddy. We have lots of time for cuddles as we look at books or sing songs or just when i am a bit sleepy. Snack time is exciting as we all wash our hands before snack and then we get to sit in big chairs around the table and eat our lovely snack. After snack we have our nappies done and then go out for a play in the garden or go for a walk in the buggies to the local park or the duck pond.

After all our playing  we usually have a nap  on good day we can sleep outside the playroom in our buggies so we get lots of fresh air which helps us to sleep better, when the weather is not so good we can have a sleep in the lovely sleep room with all the nice lights on, which make it a very calm room with the nice music and lights. After sleep we are ready to play again .

Tweenie Room

In the tweenies we will usually start our day off in the toddler room with the other children were i am usually welcomed by Insuk or Pam who have a quick chat with my mummy or daddy and then we have a cuddle as we wave to our parents. We stay with the toddlers until all the children are in and then we move through to the tweenie room where we can explore different messy play activities , play in the home corner or with the  animals, cars, bricks etc.

Before snack time we will all help to tidy up and then sit down and sing songs and read stories with Insuk or Pam we love to sing songs as we get to choose our favourites, we like to sit at the window and watch the birds in the garden or the rain falling and making puddles. We then go and wash our hands and sit  at the snack table with my friends as we chat and eat our tasty snack. After snack we have our nappies changed and then go to the garden or do some dancing.

When the weather is nice we spend lots of time in the garden playing outside until nearly lunch time.Ater lunch we all brush our teeth and then we have a nap before the afternoon so that we have lots of energy to play .Sometimes when we get up we have lots of free play to choose from, other times we may be baking a cake for my friends birthday or splashing in the water tray or building bricks, sometimes we like to explore the sand pit or get really messy with the shaving foam, that is so much fun as we like to put al over our face/hair etc.

I have a small basket in the playroom that my parents can leave things like my comforter or my spare clothes in and a peg on the door that we can leave my coat on, this is good as i can get my coat myself and be independent as i put on my coat with a little help. When we are in the playroom we sometimes where lovely blue& white checked aprons to  keep us clean as we explore all the things in the playroom.

At the end of the day we sometimes have more stories or singing or go to the garden to play as we wait for mummy or daddy to arrive, sometimes we go back into toddlers at the end of the day and play with the different toys there until it's time to go home.
