Bruntsfield pre and ante pre-school

The ante and preschool room is the largest in the nursery and offers children a wide range of different activities whilst giving them the chance to make their own decisions and choices.

They have access to messy play with water, sand, playdough, gluk, printing, clay, junk and painting. They also have a story corner where they can relax, read books and listen to story tapes through headphones.

There is a wide range of small world toys, puzzles and games as well as a music area and house corner. There is also a computer in the back room with internet access and many other activities to promote children's early numeracy and understanding of the world.

We have a small world play area and a writing desk in the hall which the children love to access.

Planning
Most of the planning in pre-school comes from observations and the children’s own interests. Staff observe the children to see what they are talking about or talk to parents or carers on a daily basis to share interests from home then activities are linked to their discussions and ideas planned. This enables us to plan for individual children as well as groups. With the new Curriculum for Excellence the children are now more involved in planning their own activities through the floorbooks and in creating their own profiles for their files. We also follow a long term plan which incorporates all major festival or cultural events during the year.
